Bankruptcy- a rather dense and possibly even boring subject. This book is very much just like any casebook that is used in law school. It is full of cases and long discussions thereafter. I think you have to have an interest or a passion to learn about bankruptcy to thoroughly enjoy the content. However, this textbook gets 3 star because a lot of the cases therein focus on more recent cases and publicly known issues such as the Kmart and GM chapter 11 bankruptcies which makes reading of such tough material a little bit more interesting.

I've come across this book like... 20 years ago (during my high school years) and I remember it gave me insights on life. I recently found/purchase this book at Amazon, and started reading it again. This time, it gives me different insights and still inspires me now. Such a great book and highly recommend it.

Insight into Business and Life, But Where's the Son's Reply?

This brief, encouraging book consists of a series of letters (edited for print) written by a successful businessman (Ward himself) to his son, tracking the son's career from a decision on which college to attend to the son's mid-career promotion to company president upon his father's retirement. During the 20-year span, the father shares with his son (and the reader) all of his wisdom on topics from business--work ethic, entrepreneurship, partnership, business expansion, diversification, teamwork, firing an employee, leadership, etc.; as well as life--challenge, success, integrity, marriage, money, manners, happiness, friendship, criticism, balance, etc.
Ward's advice is "business conservative," with his basic message being: Set goals for yourself, work hard, be honest and block off time to enjoy your life a little. The selected decision points, problems and events in the son's life revolve around people, mainly working relationships with business associates, employees, customers, suppliers, bankers and competitors--all without neglecting family and friends. Ward emphasizes the importance of cultivating friendships, stating how "Without doubt, friendship is the spice of life." However, when he opines how a person with more than three good friends should feel blessed, and how being rich is better than being poor, but also lonelier, he exhibits his realism and unveils a hint of quiet, unspoken regret: Do we all in our drive to achieve emphasize business and profit at the expense of humanity and friendship perhaps a little more than we should?
I recommend this book to anyone involved in business of any sort, and especially to all students considering a business career. However, I also note a caveat: Without the replies of the son, the book has the overall tone of unilateral lecturing rather than fair, two-way dialog. In a related manner, I comment on the father's favorite short book, "A Message to Garcia," which he includes in the text: Yes, work as hard, competently and expediently as the courageous messenger did in President McKinley's Cuban emergency, but, as importantly, in your business career please do not march forward on your boss's orders without first fully understanding the impact of your actions (i.e., think!) and respectfully raising any concerns you may have (i.e., speak up!).

Egyptian Arabic has always been challenging for me, mostly due to the lack of sources on the market to learn this beautiful dialect. Egyptian is hard but the teaching system in this book is slowly helping me overcome it. I still can't believe in the past I wasted my time self teaching myself Classical Arabic when I could have learned this instead, since now i am realizing nobody speaks the official Arabic language except for news, politics, etc.

The Definitive Training Guide!

This is the single most valuable dog training book on the market. Lots of dog training books are like fad diets--full of "feel-good" promises and without addressing the core issues. The Dog Rules takes a much more encompassing approach. It explains the scientific principles of effective training. It exposes the reader to different training strategies, and shows that even though the strategies may appear different at first look, they are all rooted in the same core 14 principles. Kyra has competed in all kinds of dog sports, from hunting to agility, and uses her knowledge of each of these sports to give examples of how the 14 principles run through each of these sports.

Kyra's writing style is non-judgmental, and she talks about different tactics, and explains what you are realistically gaining and losing with each one. I really appreciated her honesty. Her chapter on "One Command, One Consequence" alone is worth the price of the book, as it explains how to use discipline in a non-punitive way, by simply establishing rules and consequences. Another chapter that has been life-changing for me was her discussing of how to use the "pressure and release" methods used by horse whisperers to teach, enforce, and control a dog. I love this. It gives me an effective method to use which doesn't involve jerking my dog's collar or intimidating my dog.

After reading this book I now feel like I know how to handle every issue with my dog, and I know how to bring out the best in my dog. And the best part is that it doesn't involve spending more time training. It's just knowing the difference between handling a situation correctly or incorrectly. If you live with a dog, this book is going to change your life for the better.
