The best step-by-step organizing manual I have ever seen.

This book is based on the organizing model of the Midwest Center for Labor research, but could be useful in any type of organizing -- from citizen's groups to national policy campaigns. The book takes you through a step-by-step organizing model that helps you to define your goals, choose an issue and think of strategies and tactics for accomplishing your goals. It contains many worksheets that would be useful for group decision-making processes. Unlike most organizing manuals, this one is clear, concise, and very helpful

Great, As Far As It Goes

Organizing for Social Change is a fantastic primer to leading change in a community or organization. It is a rich resource with more helpful insights and instructions than most books of its type. However, having myself worked with groups seeking deep or systemic change, it is light on the leadership dynamics that make such change possible. It assumes a high level of competency and proficiency in a number of areas, and the simple fact is that people need time and guidance to become comfortable leading change. A fantastic companion volume to this book would be Donelson Forsyth's, Group Dynamics. Together, these two books cover the full scope of personnel and process issues required for effective social change.

Designed for political action and leverage against organizations, not for work on the ground in your community

This appears from what I've read of it to be a very useful manual for people interested in what the authors (and others) call "direct action," which ironically means working to force others, e.g., politicians and business leaders, to make political or organizational changes. It doesn't claim to be useful for people who wish to participate in work that provides a direct benefit (e.g., reducing carbon footprint by changing individual habits, providing shelter for the homeless, etc.), and as a person interested in THAT kind of action, it wasn't at all useful for me.

Their clear focus on "direct action" is admirable and probably very useful to those involved in this crucial type of work. My not-so-high rating only reflects the ambiguity of the title (many of us organize for social change in our communities without involving ourselves in trying to force anyone to do anything) given the book's lack of use for other purposes. Unfortunately there are not many resources available for those of us participating in direct work rather than "direct action." I don't propose that they change the book, only that the title or subtitle be clearer.

ready to sin?

I cannot rave enough about this book. This is the second book in the Alexander Jones story ... it opens up with Alex who ran away from everything she knows because shes hiding from the Orginals that want to make her there baby maker and kill everyone she holds dear. So shes moves around constantly hiding from them.. shes in Italy when a vampire attacks her and she meets Zeff a vampire hunter. He teaches hr to fight and take care of herself. This is where the story really takes off. If youve read the first book your probably wondering about Nathan I know I was dont fret he makes a large apperance in this book... it literally made me cry god I love Nathan *swoon* ZEFF WAS OK BUT Not NATHAN! :] anyways this book kept me up all night just because I couldnt put it down. This book had it all i cryed rejoyced screamed laughed this book literally phenomal... I suggestvthis book to everyone and and cant wait to see what else Samatha has in store for Nathan Alex n Zeff

Journey to a different world

As always, with dynamic writing duo Karpov Kinrade, we are introduced to a world that is different from what we're used to. Sometimes the differences are small, but other times they are immense. This is one of those stories. We are drawn into a foreign world, with sometimes difficult names to remember, but those names belong to memorable characters. As with all of their characters, we learn to care about their fate and their well-being. It's one of the things that I can always count on from Karpov Kinrade. I won't rehash the plot, since all of the other reviewers tend to do that. I will just give my most sincere recommendation to anyone who has not yet read one of their books, or who is interested in journeying to a new and magical world.

Things are not always what they seem....

I will admit I was a little lost in the beginning of this short novella. There was no backstory; you are just there, on the ship with “Sev,” the main character of this story. He is a dark and mysterious passenger who bought his passage on a whale-ship because he knows it will bring him to the ship he is truly after.

A recluse, “Sev” appears to make everyone including the captain nervous because he stays aloof. He covers his hair and hands so that they will not truly know what he is, that is until he is ready for them to truly comprehend how dangerous he really is. That time is coming.

When “Sev’s” ship comes under attack by the Rakam, their ship is badly damaged and in dire need of repairs. Luckily, another ship happens to be passing through and sees that they are in distress and offers their assistance. How wonderful right?

Things are not always what they seem and therein lays the plot twist. “Sev” is in truth Dak’Ra, a very powerful being, and with the help of his Drakruu (think Dragon , heck yeahh!) are about to bring it! I cannot spoil things and tell you why, read the story, it is worth it.

I will say that I did truly enjoy this short story. I am looking forward to the next installment in this series. I need to know if Dak’Ra finds what he seeks. Nice novella.

Unique and Amazing !

Wow. It took me a minute to understand fully. This is the first book of the genre i have read and I was caught not wanting to put it down. It drew me in because of the uniqueness of the story. I haven't quite read anything like it and want to read more on this series. I truly enjoy it. I love these to authors and have read all of their books and they always surprise me. This team Karpov Kinrade are truly talented writing from paranormal to erotic to epic and urban fantasy. Amazing team! This is a short quick read and can't wait for more.

Dak'Ra is at sea & hiding who he is, searching for the love of his life La'Kia and the ship & man that took her the black Kiasheen. In the process of trying to find the ship, the ship he is on is attacked my the Rakaam. Loosing a lot of men a ship comes to their aide. But it isn't what it seems. He has to reveal who he is, A Stonebearer. "Tell all you see that Dak'Ra still lives. Tell them he comes for the Black Kiasheen" that was my favorite line of the book.

I want to say a lot more but i don't want to give away the book. I recommend for everyone. Its very unique and i believe you will enjoy the start to this series. It will leave you wanting more. I know I do. Karpov Kinrade pulls off another amazing story.

About the Author
George Augustus Moore (24 February 1852 – 21 January 1933) was an Irish novelist, short-story writer, poet, art critic, memoirist and dramatist. Moore came from a Roman Catholic landed family who lived at Moore Hall in Carra, County Mayo. He originally wanted to be a painter, and studied art in Paris during the 1870s. There, he befriended many of the leading French artists and writers of the day. As a naturalistic writer, he was amongst the first English-language authors to absorb the lessons of the French realists, and was particularly influenced by the works of �mile Zola. His writings influenced James Joyce, according to the literary critic and biographer Richard Ellmann, and, although Moore's work is sometimes seen as outside the mainstream of both Irish and British literature, he is as often regarded as the first great modern Irish novelist.

The penultimate tale 'The Wild Goose' subsumes one of the finest uses in literature of the philosophy of Nietzsche, especially his famous lines on 'stellar friendship'. We see here a new 20th century impulse towards self-realization struggling against the nostalgia it inevitably entails, a condition of soul that would be so beautifully etched in 'The Dead' and in the peregrinations of Stephen Dedalus, as well as works that go beyond the Irish scene - Jack London too springs to mind: 'Oakland was only a place to start from'.

Shari L. Dworkin is Professor in the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the University of California, San Francisco School of Nursing. She is the author or editor of several books, most recently Body Panic: Gender, Health, and the Selling of Fitness�and Men at Risk, both with NYU Press.

Faye Linda Wachs is an Associate Professor of Sociology in the Department of Psychology and Sociology at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona).

Amazing book exposing the sexism and racism involved in every day advertisements focused around fitness. I was required to read this for a sociology course at UT Austin, and thoroughly enjoyed it.
