Misinformation, typos, literally lists cities in the WRONG country. Misleading maps. Honestly a horrendous book. Cannot believe my professor so blindly picked this book because it is seriously so terrible. I have never had a book with so many blatant errors. Don't even get me started on the inconsistency within chapters. This book in no way lends its self to allowing a student to read and take notes in the chapters because if there are 6 concept, each concept will be laid out in a completely different style than the last one and you have little to nothing to compare or contrast. I would seriously like my money back especially considering the amount of time I spent googling things because you seriously have to fact check some of the statements in this book.

Irrelevant info sprinkled combined with very deep explanations
By GregoryDearth
If you have the unfortunate fate of requiring this book for a college course, you have my condolences. This class is terrible. The book itself goes into WAY too much detail on every little aspect of the complex Earth. You end up sifting through tons of irrelevant and unimportant factoids to find the answers to the test questions. Most students abandon trying to actually study the book after the first couple chapters as they soon realize that the subject matter is poorly explained... unless you happen to already be a meteorologist you will be lost if you dare attempt to commit a large percentage of this book to memory. Even though I consider myself a fan of science and find some of the subject matter quite interesting, and can certainly appreciate details, I find myself lost at times to explain why I need to know the etiology of a scientific term or why I would need to know deep meteorological concepts at all.
The book is written with a deep liberal-agenda slant as well. Any conservative that dares doubt the popular paradigm about man-made climate change will be forced to answer questions affirming without a shred of doubt that humans are the major cause of climate change. This is preposterous as nothing presented in this book (or anywhere for that matter) can be considered sufficient evidence to make that claim. Man contributes to climate change? Sure. Causes it? Maybe... partially. Is the major cause of it? Not known.... but asserted with certainty in this book.
The tons of pictures and graphs are vastly more informative than the text itself. But even at that, the complex systems often modeled in these diagrams can give even a high-IQ student a challenge to decipher.
If you can avoid this class, do so as if it were the plague. If you have to take this class, skip to the key concepts sections after each chapter and just learn that crap. Mark the chapter summaries with tabs so you can easily flip to them - comes in handy as many professors do open-book tests in this class because it is so convoluted and complex. In a nutshell, you could study this book for 5 years and not absorb all the info therein. Doing it in a semester is impossible.
I do give the book some respect for being very up to date and having many articles about recent events. Parts of the book read more like a Popular Science magazine, and in that way can be quite pleasing. I intend to not only rent the book but purchase it as this will be chill reading once I am done with this awful class.

Condensed concepts written in a format with little understanding for a student new to Geography
By Thyme Lee
This book is ridiculously difficult to understand! The author has a huge agenda in regards to global warming and the man-made creation of it. The concepts are difficult to understand because of the never-ending use of parentheses. As and example, one of the Concept Review questions at the end of chapter 7 asks (In the third question asked in question 17. Yes, many questions have multiple questions!)- What two principal processes are discussed in this chapter?
Answer- "Collision-coalescence process, involving warmer clouds and falling coalescing droplets, and the Bergeron ice-crystal process, in which supercooled water droplets evaporate and are absorbed by ice crystals that grow in mass and fall."
That's all that's written in the text! From this, I have no idea what these 'principal processes' do, I know simply they are mentioned as quoted in the chapter...What the heck is supercooled!?
The diagrams, charts, and photos are packed with information that is not explained comprehensively, and the math formulas should be written as such instead of being leaked into the text in paragraph format.
I can't stand this book! And sadly, I now can't stand Geography which I thought would be a fun class. Interesting, because it's what's going on outside my front door, affecting my everyday...
